Corn vs Wart: What's the Difference?

by Admin

Corns and warts can look strikingly similar but require very different treatments. Knowing which one you have is the first step to clearing it for good.

Both corns and warts appear as small, raised, often painful lesions on the foot — but they have completely different causes, with one being mechanical and the other viral.

What Is a Corn?

A corn is a localised area of thickened skin caused by repetitive friction or pressure. It typically appears on toes or pressure points and resolves once the underlying pressure is removed.

What Is a Wart?

A wart (verruca) is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It often shows tiny black dots in the centre and can spread if left untreated.

How Treatment Differs

Corns are managed with debridement and pressure offloading. Warts require antiviral treatments such as cryotherapy or topical agents. Misdiagnosing one for the other usually delays resolution.
